The Indian Army saved four civilians, including one injured person, trapped by flash floods in Himachal Pradesh’s Kinnaur district. The floods, triggered by a cloudburst on Wednesday evening, struck the high-altitude Rishi Dogri valley, inundating a bridge across the Sutlej River. The affected area, an active road construction site managed by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) near Gangthang Bralam, became inaccessible due to the raging waters.
Following an urgent distress call from the Kinnaur Superintendent of Police, the Army swiftly deployed a Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) column. Battling darkness, treacherous currents, and unstable terrain, the team reached the site and located the stranded civilians on the far bank of the river. With remarkable precision, the HADR team illuminated the area to facilitate night rescue operations, guiding the group to safer, elevated ground.
The Army employed cutting-edge technology, including the Logistics Drone High Altitude (LDHA) system, to deliver essential supplies like food and coconut water across the floodwaters, ensuring the civilians’ survival through the night. The injured individual was promptly evacuated and admitted to Regional Hospital in Reckong Peo for treatment.

The rescued civilians were safely relocated to the Army camp in Pooh. Authorities are now preparing to bring them back to the home bank once the floodwaters recede, ensuring their safe return.
