The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a stark warning for Andhra Pradesh, forecasting heavy rains, thunderstorms, and strong winds across multiple regions from September 1 to 5, 2025. The alert, announced on September 1 from Amaravati, highlights the potential for significant weather disruptions, particularly in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP), Yanam, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh (SCAP), and Rayalaseema.
On Monday, isolated areas in NCAP and Yanam are expected to experience heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning across NCAP, SCAP, and Rayalaseema. The IMD has escalated concerns for September 2, issuing a 'red' alert for parts of NCAP and Yanam, predicting "extremely heavy" rainfall exceeding 20 cm within 24 hours. Strong winds, reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph, are also forecast across the state from September 1 to 3, raising risks of flooding and infrastructure damage.
The severe weather is attributed to a low-pressure area expected to form over the north Bay of Bengal within the next 24 hours, driven by an upper-air cyclonic circulation. This system has merged with another circulation off the north Odisha coast, intensifying the monsoon activity. On September 3, heavy rain is likely to continue in NCAP, Yanam, and SCAP, with thunderstorms and gusty winds affecting multiple regions. The IMD projects that thunderstorms with lightning will persist in NCAP and Yanam on September 4 and 5, alongside strong winds statewide.

Authorities are urging residents to prepare for potential disruptions, including road closures and power outages, as the state braces for this intense monsoon spell. The IMD’s warnings underscore the need for vigilance, particularly in low-lying and coastal areas prone to flooding.
