Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu met Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Wednesday, pressing for Rs 563 crore to revolutionize the state’s sports infrastructure. The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader, a key NDA ally, requested Rs 538 crore for new stadiums and Rs 25 crore to host the Khelo India Martial Arts Games 2025.
Naidu urged swift completion of Khelo India projects in Tirupati, Rajahmundry, Kakinada, and Narasaraopeta. He outlined Andhra Pradesh’s ambitious 2024-29 sports policy, emphasizing the creation of a robust sports ecosystem and seeking enhanced central government support.
The Chief Minister proposed an international-standard badminton training centre and a national aquatic sports hub in Amaravati, highlighting the Krishna river’s potential for water sports facilities. He also pushed for National Centres of Excellence at Nagarjuna University and Kakinada.

Naidu detailed funding needs, including Rs 27 crore for Vijayawada’s Indira Gandhi Stadium, Rs 170 crore for a multi-sport complex at Guntur’s BR Stadium, and Rs 341 crore for statewide sports development. He also advocated for additional Khelo India centres to scout talent and a Sports Authority of India training centre in Tirupati.
Expressing gratitude for Andhra Pradesh hosting the Khelo India Martial Arts Games, Naidu assured top-tier venues in Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, and other cities. Union Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu attended the meeting.
On the second day of his Delhi visit, Naidu is set to meet Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil to further his state’s development agenda.
