Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Jammu on Sunday to confront the catastrophic fallout from relentless rains and flash floods that have wreaked havoc across Jammu and Kashmir, claiming over 130 lives and leaving a trail of destruction.
Landing at Jammu airport, Shah was welcomed by Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. He proceeded to Raj Bhawan, where he will chair a critical high-level meeting on Monday to evaluate ongoing relief efforts, officials confirmed.
Shah is expected to conduct an aerial survey of the hardest-hit areas, including Katra, where a devastating landslide on August 26 killed 34 pilgrims and injured 20 on the old route to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine, and Chisoti village in Kishtwar, battered by a cloudburst.
Since August 14, cloudbursts, landslides, and flash floods in Kishtwar, Kathua, Reasi, and Ramban have left 120 injured and 33 missing. Record rainfall on August 26-27 triggered widespread flooding, devastating infrastructure across the region.
