Union Home Minister Amit Shah kicked off a high-stakes meeting at Raj Bhavan in Srinagar on Tuesday, putting the spotlight on Jammu and Kashmir’s ongoing developmental projects.
Flanked by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Shah is steering a deep dive into the Union Territory’s progress, with senior officials from the Union Home Ministry and J-K government on hand to deliver the latest updates.
The powwow comes hot on the heels of Shah’s arrival in the Valley on Monday evening, marking day two of his three-day mission to J-K. Sources say the Home Minister will get a full briefing on projects aimed at transforming the region, a key focus since the Centre’s push to fast-track development post-Article 370. From infrastructure to welfare, the agenda is packed—and the stakes are high.
Shah’s Srinagar leg started with a poignant stopover at the home of Kirti Chakra recipient Deputy SP Humayun Muzammil Bhat, killed in a fierce 2023 encounter with terrorists in Kokernag’s dense forests. Spending nearly 20 minutes with Bhat’s father, retired IGP Ghulam Hassan Bhat, Shah paid tribute to the fallen hero before settling into Raj Bhavan for the night.
Later today, Shah will shift gears to chair a security review with top brass from Kashmir’s police and forces, amid a beefed-up presence of armed personnel across the Valley. With development and defense on the table, Shah’s visit signals Delhi’s unwavering eye on J-K’s future.
