Tensions erupted in Kodapur village, Ganganagar, Prayagraj, after unidentified miscreants uprooted a statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and threw it into a nearby canal, police reported on Monday. The incident, linked to a dispute over the statue’s placement on a contested farmland access path, incited protests from villagers, who accused Mohammad Ishtiyaq, Muharram Ali, and Mohammad Alam of orchestrating the act due to their opposition to the statue’s installation.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Ganganagar) Kuldeep Singh Gunawat confirmed a case has been registered, with investigations ongoing to identify the culprits. Authorities have promised to install a new statue soon, and the situation remains under control with heavy police presence. The vandalism, reported on social media, has fueled calls for swift justice.
