Authorities have launched a 72-hour recovery and assessment drive in flood-affected areas of Surat after heavy rainfall caused widespread waterlogging and disruption across several parts of the city. As part of the initiative, officials have surveyed more than 9,100 families to assess the damage and identify the immediate support required for affected residents.
The survey teams are collecting information related to losses suffered by households, including damage to homes, personal belongings and essential items affected by floodwaters. Officials are focusing on ensuring that relief measures reach families who faced the maximum impact due to water accumulation in residential and low-lying areas.
The flood situation in Surat followed intense rainfall that led to rising water levels in local drainage channels and creeks, leaving several neighbourhoods inundated. Rescue agencies, including disaster response teams and local emergency services, were deployed earlier to assist stranded residents and shift people from vulnerable locations to safer areas.

Under the recovery programme, government departments and civic officials are working together to speed up cleaning operations, restore normal services and evaluate the requirements of affected communities. The 72-hour campaign is aimed at completing the initial assessment quickly so that further rehabilitation measures can be planned based on ground reports.
Officials said the priority remains supporting families affected by the floods and bringing essential facilities back to normal. Several parts of Surat had witnessed prolonged waterlogging, with residents facing challenges related to transportation, access to basic supplies and the cleanup of homes and public areas after the floodwaters receded. The recovery effort highlights the challenges faced by urban areas during extreme weather events and the need for effective disaster preparedness. Authorities are continuing to monitor affected zones while coordinating relief and restoration work to help Surat return to normal conditions at the earliest.
