Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday urged citizens to cut salt, oil, and sugar intake to dodge diseases, prescribing a monthly cap of 600 grams of salt, two litres of oil, and three kilograms of sugar for a family of four. “This thumb rule can control many health issues,” he said at a Secretariat press conference, also pushing for a 30-minute daily walk.
Naidu, spotlighting Andhra’s top health woes—cardiovascular diseases (18–22%), diabetes (12–15%), and respiratory illnesses (10–12%)—suggested 30 minutes of meditation or prayer daily for stress relief. He unveiled the Digital Health Nerve Centre (DiNC), a pilot launching June 15 in Kuppam, aiming for 100% Ayushman Bharat Health Account creation and integrated health records. The app-driven initiative will offer telemedicine, disease prediction, and preventive alerts, starting with five mandals, then scaling to Chittoor’s 31 mandals, and eventually all 26 districts over 26 months. Tata MD and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation are on board.
Naidu also pitched a mega global medicity in Amaravati, tapping into a Union plan for 25 such hubs via public-private partnerships. Andhra’s offered 200 acres, with Qatar’s potential $10 billion investment in play. “It’ll boost health tourism,” he said, eyeing top hospitals. From diet tweaks to digital health, Naidu’s vision blends old-school habits with cutting-edge tech to tackle Andhra’s 80% disease burden.
