A tragic road accident in Uttarakhand’s Dehradun district claimed the lives of three passengers and left at least 10 others seriously injured on Tuesday after a Himachal Roadways bus plunged into a deep gorge. The incident occurred in the Kalsi area, sending shockwaves across the region.
According to the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the accident took place at Kuanu on the Minus road, where the bus reportedly went out of control and fell nearly 100 metres into a steep gorge. The bus was en route from Nerwa in Himachal Pradesh to Paonta Sahib and was carrying a total of 36 passengers at the time of the mishap.
Rescue teams from the SDRF and local police rushed to the spot immediately after receiving information about the accident. A coordinated rescue and relief operation was launched to retrieve passengers trapped inside the wreckage and provide emergency medical assistance.

Officials confirmed that three passengers, including two women, died on the spot due to the severity of the fall. The deceased have been identified as Yasmin Begum (46), Richa (30), and Dhan Bahadur, all residents of Nerwa. The injured, including bus driver Dinesh Kumar from Shimla, were rescued from the gorge and shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the bus may have lost control while attempting to overtake a smaller vehicle, leading to the fatal plunge. Police officials stated that a detailed inquiry is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident and assess any possible negligence.
The incident once again highlights the dangers of hilly roads and the urgent need for stricter safety measures, improved road infrastructure, and cautious driving practices in mountainous regions to prevent such tragic accidents.
