Russian missile and drone strikes across Ukraine on Monday killed at least eight civilians and injured 35 others, prompting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to condemn what he described as “horrific attacks.” The latest wave of strikes targeted multiple regions, damaging infrastructure and leaving parts of the country without power amid rising summer electricity demand.
In the central city of Dnipro, a Russian missile strike hit critical infrastructure, killing five people and injuring 29, according to President Zelenskyy. He said the attack formed part of an ongoing campaign aimed at weakening Ukraine’s infrastructure and civilian morale as the war continues into its fourth year following Russia’s full-scale invasion.
In a separate incident, Russian drones struck a passenger minibus in the southern city of Zaporizhzhia, killing three people and injuring six others, including a child. Ukrainian officials said the vehicle was directly hit, underscoring the continued risk to civilians from aerial attacks across populated areas.

Further casualties were reported in northeastern Ukraine’s Sumy region, where police said Russian drones killed a 69-year-old woman and a 77-year-old man. Authorities added that additional strikes were recorded in at least six other regions, contributing to widespread disruption and fear among civilians.
The attacks also affected Ukraine’s power infrastructure, with grid operator Ukrenergo reporting outages across eight regions. The disruptions were worsened by high temperatures, which increased electricity demand as residents relied on air conditioning. Officials warned that continued strikes on energy systems could further strain supply stability.
Zelenskyy renewed calls for stronger international support, particularly urging Europe to accelerate the development and deployment of advanced air defence systems capable of intercepting ballistic missiles. He stressed that enhanced anti-missile capabilities are essential to protecting civilians from continued aerial assaults. Meanwhile, both Ukrainian and Russian forces reported ongoing drone warfare, with each side claiming to have intercepted dozens of incoming drones in continued hostilities across the conflict zone.
