In a swift response to the catastrophic Dharali disaster in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced on Saturday an immediate financial assistance package of Rs 5 lakh for the next of kin of those who lost their lives and for individuals whose homes were destroyed. The initiative aims to provide urgent relief to families grappling with the aftermath of the tragedy in the remote village of Dharali.

Recognizing the need for long-term recovery, Dhami also established a three-member committee, chaired by the Secretary (Revenue), to spearhead rehabilitation efforts, revive the local economy, and promote sustainable livelihoods for affected villagers. The committee has been directed to submit a preliminary report within a week, detailing actionable steps to rebuild the community. Additionally, it will craft a comprehensive, long-term policy to ensure the safety, security, and economic stability of Dharali’s residents, addressing both immediate needs and future resilience.

The Dharali disaster, which struck the region recently, caused significant loss of life and property, displacing numerous families and disrupting livelihoods in the mountainous area. The chief minister’s announcement has been met with appreciation from local leaders, who emphasized the importance of timely aid and structured rehabilitation to restore normalcy. The state government is also coordinating with local authorities to assess the full extent of the damage and ensure aid reaches those in need promptly.
