The administration of Donald Trump is reportedly considering fresh military strikes on Iran amid ongoing negotiations aimed at reducing tensions in the Middle East. The reports surfaced as diplomatic efforts continued behind the scenes, with Pakistan reportedly playing a mediating role between Washington and Tehran.
According to US media reports published on Friday, no final decision has yet been made regarding possible military action. The developments came shortly after Trump announced he would remain in Washington instead of travelling for his son’s wedding in the Bahamas, citing “circumstances pertaining to government” and describing the current moment as an important period for the United States.
The White House later revised Trump’s weekend schedule, confirming that he would not visit his New Jersey golf resort as originally planned and would instead stay at the White House. Returning from a speech in New York state earlier in the day, Trump also declined to answer questions from reporters travelling with him, an unusual move that further fuelled speculation surrounding the administration’s next steps on Iran.

Reports citing unnamed officials claimed Trump had grown increasingly frustrated with the progress of negotiations over recent days. Sources indicated that his position had gradually shifted during the week from favouring diplomatic engagement towards considering military options if talks failed to produce results.
White House spokesperson Anna Kelly reportedly stated that the president had been “clear about the consequences if Iran fails to make a deal.” However, the White House itself did not formally comment on the reports when approached for clarification regarding the possibility of military strikes.
Diplomatic discussions are believed to be continuing, with Pakistan reportedly sending its military chief to Tehran in an effort to help secure an agreement between the two sides. The latest developments have heightened concerns about regional stability, as analysts warn that any escalation involving Iran and the United States could have significant consequences across the Middle East.
