Panic buying at fuel stations across Uttar Pradesh continued for the second consecutive day, leading to long queues outside petrol pumps in several cities. Despite the rush, authorities and oil companies have repeatedly assured the public that there is no shortage of petrol or diesel, urging people to avoid unnecessary bulk purchases.
According to industry representatives, the surge in demand peaked late Thursday night and early Friday, driven largely by rumours and public anxiety rather than any real disruption in supply. Sudhir Bora, vice president of the state petrol pump association, noted that the situation began stabilising later in the day as awareness spread and panic subsided.
To maintain order and prevent disruptions, local administrations stepped in. Monitoring teams were deployed in key cities, including Lucknow, to oversee fuel distribution and manage crowd flow at petrol stations. Officials aimed to ensure that supply chains continued smoothly and that no artificial shortages were created due to hoarding.

Oil companies have also moved quickly to reassure consumers. Indian Oil Corporation stated that fuel availability remains steady across the state. Sanjay Bhandari, executive director and state-level coordinator for oil companies in Uttar Pradesh, confirmed that petrol pumps currently have sufficient stock to last four to five days, along with adequate LPG supplies.
Authorities have emphasised that the current situation is driven purely by panic buying and not by any actual supply crisis. They have urged citizens to remain calm and purchase fuel only as needed, warning that unnecessary hoarding could create avoidable pressure on the system.
The developments highlight how quickly misinformation and uncertainty can disrupt normal supply chains, even when adequate resources are available. Officials continue to monitor the situation closely to prevent further panic and ensure uninterrupted fuel availability across the state.
