Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath experienced Japan's cutting-edge Superconducting Maglev (SCMAGLEV) train during a test ride on Thursday, reaching speeds of 501 km/h on the Yamanashi Maglev Line.
The CM, on the final day of his official visit to Japan, boarded the next-generation high-speed system, which uses magnetic levitation technology to float above the tracks, eliminating wheel friction for ultra-smooth and efficient travel. In a post on X, Adityanath shared visuals from onboard, including the speed display hitting 501 km/h, and described the journey as remarkably stable and vibration-free even at such extraordinary velocity.
"Experienced Japan's advanced SCMAGLEV train in Yamanashi, a next-generation high-speed system that reaches speeds of up to 500 km/h and represents the future of clean, efficient and precision mobility," he wrote. He further noted that the ride highlighted Japan's commitment to innovation and long-term infrastructure excellence, making the future of transportation feel closer than ever.

The SCMAGLEV, developed by Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central), is part of the Chuo Shinkansen project aimed at connecting Tokyo to Nagoya (and eventually Osaka) in significantly reduced times compared to conventional bullet trains. While operational speeds are targeted around 500 km/h, test runs have previously achieved world records exceeding 600 km/h. The technology relies on superconducting magnets for levitation and propulsion, powered in demonstration modes by advanced energy sources including hydrogen plants.
This experience aligns with Adityanath's broader visit objectives, which included exploring investment opportunities, green hydrogen cooperation, and advanced technologies to potentially inspire infrastructure developments in Uttar Pradesh. The CM's firsthand encounter with the futuristic train has sparked discussions on high-speed rail possibilities in India, where projects like the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train are already underway in collaboration with Japan. Videos and images shared by the CM and media outlets captured the thrill of the smooth, silent acceleration, drawing widespread attention online.
