Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha made an urgent telephone call to India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Sunday to brief him on Kyiv’s frantic diplomatic efforts ahead of a looming U.S.-imposed deadline. The call comes as President Donald Trump has reportedly given Ukraine until November 27 to accept a controversial 28-point peace plan that would force Kyiv to cede territory to Russia, drastically cut its armed forces, and permanently abandon NATO membership aspirations.
The proposed framework, described by Trump’s special envoy Keith Kellogg as still “a work in progress,” has triggered alarm across Europe. European allies view the terms as heavily tilted toward Moscow and are quietly preparing a counter-proposal to bolster Ukraine’s negotiating position before crucial talks scheduled in Switzerland this week.
In a post on X, Minister Sybiha confirmed the conversation, stating he had informed Jaishankar about “the dynamics of peace efforts and upcoming talks” while exchanging assessments of current developments. Jaishankar responded publicly, expressing appreciation for the briefing and reiterating India’s longstanding position in favor of an early cessation of hostilities and the establishment of a durable peace through dialogue.

Leading the U.S. delegation will be Secretary of State Marco Rubio and special envoy Steve Witkoff, with U.S. Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll already in Europe after meeting President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv. As the November 27 deadline approaches, diplomatic sources indicate intense behind-the-scenes maneuvering on multiple continents.
With time running out and geopolitical pressure mounting, Ukraine faces one of the most consequential decisions since Russia’s full-scale invasion began nearly four years ago, while global powers race to shape the outcome of the conflict.
