The United Arab Emirates faced heightened security alerts over the weekend as residents in Dubai and Abu Dhabi received warnings from the Ministry of Interior about a “potential missile threat". Authorities advised people to remain vigilant, while the Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi cautioned Indian nationals in the UAE not to take photographs or share images of incident locations on social media. The alerts come amid escalating Iranian strikes across the region that have targeted key infrastructure and prompted temporary closures.
Dubai International Airport, one of the busiest airports globally for international traffic, was briefly shut down on Saturday after authorities intercepted an unidentified object nearby. The closure disrupted travel and highlighted the vulnerability of critical transport hubs to regional hostilities. Officials confirmed that the airport resumed operations after security assessments deemed it safe. Airport staff and passengers were reportedly instructed to follow safety protocols while authorities monitored the skies.
Over the past week, Iranian attacks have targeted multiple high-profile sites in the UAE, including Abu Dhabi International Airport, the Palm Jumeirah development, and the luxury Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai. Drone debris also sparked a fire at the US consulate in Dubai on Tuesday. These repeated strikes have raised concerns about regional stability and the safety of expatriates and tourists. Emergency services have remained on high alert, ensuring rapid response to any incidents.

In response to the attacks, UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed issued a rare public warning to the country’s adversaries, urging them not to mistake the nation’s prosperity for vulnerability. During a hospital visit to meet people wounded by Iranian projectiles, he said, “The UAE has thick skin and bitter flesh; we are no easy prey. The UAE is attractive; the UAE is beautiful; the UAE is a model. But I say to them: ‘Do not be misled by the UAE’s appearance.’” His remarks underline the government’s commitment to defending its territory and citizens.
The UAE has continued to strengthen security measures across critical infrastructure, including airports, consulates, and luxury developments, following the surge in Iranian strikes. Airspace monitoring, emergency drills, and rapid response units have been deployed to mitigate potential risks. Residents have been advised to remain vigilant and comply with official guidance, while the authorities maintain communication with diplomatic missions regarding the safety of foreign nationals.
Regional experts warn that the situation in the Gulf remains tense, with the potential for further missile or drone attacks. Iran’s ongoing strikes have heightened geopolitical tensions, drawing attention from international observers and governments. Analysts suggest that the UAE’s strategic resilience and coordinated security measures will be critical in preventing escalation. The coming days are likely to see increased surveillance and heightened readiness across the nation as authorities monitor evolving threats.
