In a horrifying escalation of targeted violence, a 40-year-old Hindu grocery store owner, Sarat Mani Chakraborty, was fatally stabbed with sharp weapons in Narsingdi district late on Monday night, marking the second deadly attack on a Hindu man within 24 hours. The assault occurred around 10 pm at Charsindur Bazaar in Palash upazila, where unidentified assailants struck suddenly while Chakraborty was tending to his shop, leaving him critically injured; he succumbed to his wounds shortly after being rushed to medical care by locals.

Hours earlier on the same day, another Hindu individual, 45-year-old Rana Pratap Bairagi—a factory owner and acting newspaper editor—was gunned down in Jashore district. Attackers on a motorcycle lured him from his ice factory in Kopalia Bazaar, engaged in a brief argument, fired multiple shots to his head, and fled the scene, with police recovering several bullet casings and confirming at least three gunshot wounds in the fatal assault.

These twin killings represent the latest in an alarming surge of assaults on Bangladesh's Hindu minority, who comprise approximately 8 percent of the population, amid ongoing political instability under the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus. Recent weeks have seen a string of brutal incidents, including the stabbing and burning of Khokon Chandra Das on New Year's Eve, the shooting of Bajendra Biswas in late December, and earlier lynchings over alleged extortion or blasphemy claims.

Additional reports highlight severe atrocities, such as the rape and humiliation of a Hindu woman in Jhenaidah district just days ago, where assailants demanded money, tied her to a tree, cut her hair, and circulated videos of the act.
