US President Donald Trump publicly criticised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Sunday, declaring that the Ukrainian leader “isn’t ready” to accept a US-authored peace proposal intended to end the nearly four-year Russia-Ukraine war. Speaking to reporters before attending the Kennedy Center Honors, Trump claimed Zelenskyy had not even reviewed the document hours earlier, despite his negotiating team expressing strong approval.
The president suggested Moscow is comfortable with the terms, although Russian President Vladimir Putin has previously rejected key elements. Trump’s frustration came after three days of intensive US-Ukrainian talks in Florida concluded on Saturday without a breakthrough, highlighting persistent differences over territory and security guarantees.
Zelenskyy countered that Ukraine remains fully committed to constructive dialogue with Washington, describing a recent briefing from the talks as substantive. He reiterated Kyiv’s determination to achieve a just and lasting peace while maintaining national sovereignty.

The Kremlin welcomed Trump’s newly released National Security Strategy, praising its emphasis on dialogue and strategic stability with Russia rather than confrontation. Outgoing US Ukraine envoy Keith Kellogg described negotiations as nearing the “last 10 metres,” with Donbas territory and control arrangements for the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant remaining the primary obstacles.
As diplomatic efforts intensify, Russian missile and drone attacks continued over the weekend, killing at least four civilians and damaging critical infrastructure. Zelenskyy is scheduled to meet leaders from the United Kingdom, France, and Germany in London today to align European support amid mounting pressure from Washington.
