White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt declared that US President Donald Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for brokering peace in multiple global conflicts, including between India and Pakistan. Speaking at a Thursday press briefing, Leavitt credited Trump with ending disputes between Thailand-Cambodia, Israel-Iran, Rwanda-Democratic Republic of Congo, India-Pakistan, Serbia-Kosovo, and Egypt-Ethiopia, averaging one peace deal per month in his six-month tenure.
Since May 10, Trump has claimed nearly 30 times on social media and in public that he mediated a “full and immediate” ceasefire between India and Pakistan after a “long night” of US-led talks, promising increased trade if hostilities ceased. However, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar have firmly rejected these claims. Jaishankar, addressing the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, clarified no third-party mediation occurred during Operation Sindoor, triggered by the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, and no Modi-Trump calls took place between April 22 and June 16.
Modi emphasized in Parliament that no foreign leader influenced India’s decision to halt Operation Sindoor, asserting the ceasefire resulted from direct military talks with Pakistan. Despite India’s denials, Leavitt’s bold endorsement underscores Trump’s narrative of global peacemaking, fueling debate over his role in the India-Pakistan de-escalation and his Nobel Prize candidacy.
