President Donald Trump electrified U.S. troops aboard the USS George Washington in Yokosuka, Japan, on October 28, 2025, delivering a high-energy speech before breaking into his iconic YMCA dance with sailors and Marines. The visit, part of a five-day Asia tour, underscored America’s military presence and deepened ties with Japan under new Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.
As Marine One landed to the Top Gun theme, service members—who had waited hours—sang along to “Sweet Caroline” and “Party in the USA.” Trump, joined by Takaichi, praised the troops’ appearance and valor: “The Navy’s power comes from you people—incredible people, good-looking people, too many good-looking people.” With humor, he added, “I don’t like good-looking people… I never admitted that before.”
During the visit, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick signed an MoU with Japan to enhance cooperation in shipbuilding—a move Trump said would strengthen both nations’ maritime capabilities. Earlier in Tokyo, the leaders signed trade and critical minerals agreements and reaffirmed support for Japan’s defense modernization. Takaichi, according to the White House, plans to nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.
