Congress MP Shashi Tharoor faced a tense situation in Kerala when his convoy was reportedly blocked by unidentified individuals, and one of his security staffers was assaulted during the incident.
The confrontation occurred while Tharoor was travelling to a public engagement in the state capital. According to reports, local political tensions may have contributed to the obstruction, although authorities are still investigating the precise circumstances. Eyewitnesses stated that the convoy was stopped on a busy road, causing a brief traffic disruption before the security personnel intervened.
Tharoor’s security team responded quickly to the situation, ensuring the MP’s safety while attempting to de-escalate the confrontation. One security staffer sustained minor injuries during the scuffle and received immediate medical attention. The MP himself was unharmed.

Local police have registered a case and are conducting inquiries to identify the individuals responsible for blocking the convoy and assaulting the security personnel. “We are investigating the incident thoroughly and will take appropriate action based on the evidence collected,” a senior officer said.
This is not the first time Tharoor has faced security challenges in Kerala, a state known for high political activism and occasional confrontations involving public figures. Analysts note that such incidents underscore the ongoing tensions between political groups and the importance of robust security arrangements for legislators.
Tharoor condemned the assault in a statement, calling for peaceful engagement and adherence to democratic norms. He also appealed to authorities to ensure that elected representatives and their staff can perform their duties without fear of harassment or violence. The incident has sparked widespread discussion on social media, with citizens urging stronger protection measures for public officials.
