Sudden storms and heavy rainfall across Uttar Pradesh have claimed 13 lives and left at least 21 people injured, as widespread damage was reported in multiple districts following severe weather activity in the state.
According to officials, the fatalities occurred in storm-related incidents triggered by strong winds, lightning, and heavy rain that swept through several parts of the state. Districts including Sultanpur, Ayodhya, Amethi, Prayagraj, and Ghazipur reported casualties, with Sultanpur accounting for the highest number of deaths.
The violent weather system brought down trees, electricity poles, and mud houses in several rural and semi-urban areas, leading to multiple accidents. Many of the deaths were caused by collapsing structures or falling debris during the storm, while others were linked to electrocution from damaged power infrastructure.

In addition to the human toll, the storms caused significant disruption to daily life. Power supply was severely affected in several regions after around 50 transformers and electricity poles were damaged, leading to widespread outages. Roads were also blocked in some areas due to uprooted trees and debris.
Weather officials reported that wind speeds in some districts reached up to 100 km/h, intensifying the impact of the storm system. The India Meteorological Department has issued alerts for multiple districts, warning of continued thunderstorms, lightning, and unstable weather conditions over the coming days.
Authorities have deployed emergency response teams to affected regions, while district administrations are conducting damage assessments and providing relief to injured residents. Hospitals in impacted districts are treating the injured, with officials monitoring the situation closely.
The incident adds to a growing number of weather-related disasters in northern India during seasonal transitions, highlighting vulnerabilities in rural housing and electrical infrastructure. Officials have urged residents to remain cautious during adverse weather conditions and avoid open areas during storms.
