Russia executed its largest drone assault on Ukraine since the 2022 full-scale invasion, deploying 805 drones and decoys alongside 13 missiles overnight Sunday. Ukrainian Air Force spokesperson Yuriy Ihnat confirmed the scale to the Associated Press, noting it as the war's biggest such strike. This reflects the conflict's shift toward advanced drone warfare, where unmanned systems have become central for overwhelming defences and targeting infrastructure.
Ukraine's forces downed 747 drones and four missiles, but nine missile hits and 56 drone strikes affected 37 locations nationwide. Debris from intercepted projectiles fell in eight additional sites, exacerbating damage. The barrage resulted in at least two deaths and 15 injuries in Kyiv alone, including a 1-year-old child whose body was recovered from rubble, according to city administration head Tymur Tkachenko.
In the capital, smoke rose from the roof of the Cabinet of Ministers building, housing ministerial offices—a potential escalation, as Russia has previously avoided central government targets. Access was blocked as emergency services responded. Debris also struck a nine-storey residential building in the Sviatoshynskyi district and a four-storey one in Darnytskyi, per Mayor Vitalii Klitschko.

This marks the second major Russian drone and missile attack on Kyiv in two weeks, amid stalled peace talks and intensified fighting. No immediate Russian comment was available, but the strikes underscore ongoing tensions as the war drags into its fourth year.
