A 30-year-old Hindu man was run over and killed at a petrol pump in Bangladesh after he allegedly tried to stop a vehicle from leaving without paying for fuel, according to local reports. The incident occurred when the victim, identified as Ripon Saha, confronted the driver as the SUV appeared to exit the station without settling the bill.
Witnesses said Saha, who worked at the fuel station, stood in front of the vehicle in an attempt to prevent the driver from fleeing. The SUV, however, allegedly accelerated and ran over him before speeding away from the scene. Saha died on the spot due to the impact, officials said.
Preliminary information indicates that the SUV involved in the incident is linked to a former worker of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), though authorities have not confirmed whether the killing was politically motivated. Police have launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the driver, who fled immediately after the incident.

Law enforcement officials said they are examining CCTV footage from the petrol pump and surrounding areas to trace the vehicle’s movement. Statements from eyewitnesses and fuel station staff are also being recorded as part of the probe. A case has been registered, and further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation, police added.
The killing has sparked concern among local residents and rights groups, who have called for swift justice and accountability. Incidents involving attacks on individuals during routine disputes have drawn renewed attention in Bangladesh, with demands for stronger enforcement of law and order and protection for workers in public-facing jobs.
