Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting of the Council of Ministers where discussions focused on reforms aimed at improving ease of living, ease of doing business, and advancing the government’s long-term vision of building a developed India by 2047. The meeting brought together cabinet ministers, ministers of state, senior bureaucrats, and policy officials to review governance priorities and future reform initiatives. The prime minister later shared details of the discussions through a post on X, describing the interaction as productive and centered on accelerating reforms that directly benefit citizens and businesses.
During the meeting, Modi reportedly urged ministers to align their work with the national goal of transforming India into a developed country by the centenary year of Independence in 2047. He stressed the importance of “next-generation reforms” that can improve governance efficiency and make everyday life more convenient for citizens. According to sources cited during the discussions, the prime minister repeatedly highlighted that government policies and programs should ultimately lead to greater public comfort and accessibility while ensuring that development remains inclusive and broad-based across sectors.
The prime minister also emphasized that governance should remain people-centric and free from unnecessary interference in the daily lives of citizens. He directed ministers to ensure quicker delivery of welfare benefits and reduce delays in administrative processes. Modi reportedly told ministers that there should be no pendency in government work and advised them to remain focused on implementation and results. He further remarked that while the government has been in office since 2014, the emphasis in 2026 should be on future achievements rather than dwelling on past accomplishments.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar presented details of the prime minister's recently concluded multi-nation tour that included visits to the UAE, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, and Italy. Senior officials and secretaries from various ministries also delivered presentations outlining the progress and performance of their departments. Some of the presentations reviewed initiatives undertaken during the first two years of the Modi government’s third term, while others focused on ongoing reform measures and governance outcomes.
Cabinet Secretary T. V. Somanathan and NITI Aayog member Rajiv Gauba also addressed the gathering and shared updates on broader reform strategies and citizen-focused governance initiatives. The meeting marked the first Council of Ministers gathering held this year and served as an opportunity for the government to evaluate policy direction, administrative efficiency, and long-term developmental priorities. Officials discussed ways to streamline governance systems and strengthen coordination between ministries to ensure faster execution of schemes and reforms.
The high-level meeting came shortly after the BJP-led NDA’s strong performance in the recent assembly elections in West Bengal and Assam, along with the alliance returning to power in Puducherry. The government has increasingly highlighted governance reforms and infrastructure development as key pillars of its political and administrative agenda. Modi has frequently convened meetings with the full Council of Ministers to review national priorities and reinforce the importance of effective governance, faster decision-making, and sustained economic and social reforms as India moves towards its long-term development goals.
