Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong jointly inaugurated the second phase of the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority’s (JNPA) PSA Terminal (BMCT) via a virtual ceremony. This expansion elevates the terminal’s container handling capacity to an impressive 4.8 million Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs), reinforcing JNPA’s position as India’s premier container port.
The JNPort PSA Terminal, one of five major dedicated container terminals operated by global market leaders, boasts a deep draft exceeding 15 meters, enabling it to accommodate vessels with capacities up to 18,000 TEUs. JNPA handles 54 percent of India’s containerized cargo across all major ports, underscoring its critical role in the nation’s maritime trade.
The inauguration event was attended by key dignitaries, including Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Shantanu Thakur, PSA India Managing Director Gobu Selliaya, and JNPA Chairman Unmesh Sharad Wagh. This milestone highlights the strengthening of India-Singapore collaboration and the continued modernization of India’s port infrastructure to support global trade demands.
