Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday held bilateral talks with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen in Oslo, focusing on strengthening India’s strategic and economic engagement with Nordic countries, as part of his multi-nation diplomatic tour. The meeting was attended by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, and senior officials from the Ministry of External Affairs. The discussions underscored growing cooperation between India and Denmark, particularly in areas linked to green energy, sustainability, and emerging technologies.
Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Frederiksen have previously engaged through a telephonic conversation in September last year, during which both sides reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the India–Denmark Green Strategic Partnership. Tuesday’s meeting further built on that framework, with an emphasis on expanding collaboration in clean energy transition, innovation, and climate-focused initiatives.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi also met his Icelandic counterpart Kristrún Frostadóttir and Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo in Oslo, ahead of the third India–Nordic Summit. These engagements are part of a broader diplomatic effort to deepen India’s ties with Nordic nations across multiple sectors including technology, defence cooperation, space, and the Arctic region.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the India–Nordic Summit aims to expand cooperation in areas such as renewable energy, blue economy, circular economy, science and technology, artificial intelligence, and sustainable development. Officials said the summit builds on earlier editions held in Stockholm in 2018 and Copenhagen in 2022, and seeks to give a more strategic dimension to India’s engagement with the Nordic region.
Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Norway is part of a five-nation tour, during which he also held talks with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. The two leaders agreed to elevate bilateral ties to a Green Strategic Partnership, strengthening collaboration in clean energy, trade, investment, and innovation. Modi also met King Harald V at the Royal Palace and was conferred Norway’s Grand Cross of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit, the country’s highest civilian honour for foreign heads of government.
