The Pathankot district administration declared a holiday for all educational institutions on Monday, August 25, due to relentless rainfall that has swollen the Ujh and Ravi rivers and local rivulets, officials announced. The decision, issued by Deputy Commissioner Aditya Uppal, covers government and private schools, colleges, and other educational facilities, prioritizing safety amid the deluge.

Heavy rains in neighboring Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh have triggered rising water levels, severely impacting several villages along the India-Pakistan border in Pathankot. Floodwaters from the Ujh, Ravi, and seasonal streams have inundated low-lying areas, creating grim conditions for residents. Homes, crops, and infrastructure face significant risks, with some areas reporting waterlogging and disrupted connectivity.

On Sunday, Punjab Cabinet Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak visited the affected regions to assess the situation, assuring locals of state government compensation for losses. Relief efforts are underway, with authorities monitoring river levels and coordinating evacuations where necessary. The India Meteorological Department has warned of continued rainfall, urging residents to stay vigilant.
