Pakistan’s military has directly accused the Afghan Taliban regime of actively facilitating terrorist infiltration across the 2,600-km border by providing covering fire on Pakistani posts to allow militants and smugglers to slip through. The explosive allegation was levelled by Director-General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry during a media interaction, the video of which was released on Friday evening.
Speaking to journalists, Lt Gen Chaudhry described a pattern of coordinated attacks in which Afghan border forces first engage Pakistani positions with gunfire, creating deliberate gaps that enable terrorists and smuggling convoys to cross undetected. “Borders are mutually guarded, yet posts on the other side open fire first and then exploit the ensuing exchange to push infiltrators through,” he stated, underscoring the systematic nature of the assistance being allegedly extended to anti-Pakistan elements.
The army spokesperson rejected suggestions that a fully manned and fenced border should be impenetrable, pointing out that even the United States has been unable to completely seal its frontier with Mexico despite advanced surveillance. He revealed that since November 4, Pakistani forces have conducted 4,910 intelligence-based operations nationwide, neutralising 206 terrorists, while more than 67,000 such operations have taken place since January, the majority concentrated in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Lt Gen Chaudhry categorically denied Afghan claims of Pakistani airstrikes inside Afghanistan and reiterated Islamabad’s stance that there are “no good or bad Taliban,” with Pakistan making no distinction among terrorist groups. He disclosed that a purported ceasefire agreement reached last month with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has effectively collapsed, as the Afghan Taliban failed to fulfil its primary obligation of preventing cross-border attacks.
Relations between Islamabad and Kabul have reached a new low amid persistent Pakistani accusations that the Afghan regime continues to provide safe havens to TTP militants responsible for a surge in violence inside Pakistan. With terrorist incidents crossing 4,700 since January, the military’s public indictment signals deepening frustration and raises the prospect of further escalation along one of the world’s most volatile frontiers.
