A public confrontation between Miss Universe Mexico contestant Fátima Bosch and Pageant Director Nawat Itsaragrisil erupted on November 4 during a live sashing-ceremony event in Bangkok, casting a shadow over preparations for the 74th Miss Universe pageant scheduled for November 21 in Thailand. The 26-year-old Bosch, representing Mexico, stormed out after Itsaragrisil, Vice-President for Asia-Oceania at the Miss Universe Organization (MUO), called her “dumb” while questioning her absence from a sponsor shoot. The exchange, broadcast live, escalated when several delegates—including reigning Miss Universe 2024 Victoria Kjær Theilvig—walked out in solidarity.
The incident unfolded during pre-pageant activities meant to promote sponsors and build excitement for the global competition, which annually celebrates empowerment and cultural diversity. Itsaragrisil later explained in a livestream that he had asked Bosch to “stand up and explain” her absence but interrupted her, leading to the derogatory remark. Bosch told reporters she felt disrespected, stating, “What the director did was disrespectful; he called me ‘dumb’ because he has issues with the organisation,” while reaffirming her love for Thailand.
In response, Itsaragrisil issued a livestream apology, saying, “If someone felt bad, uncomfortable, or affected, I apologise to everyone … especially the 75 girls present.” The MUO released a statement reaffirming its commitment to a “respectful and inclusive environment” without naming Itsaragrisil, leaving questions about accountability unanswered. The episode has reignited scrutiny over the treatment of contestants in high-profile pageants.

Despite the humiliation, Bosch declared to local Thai media, “No one will ever make me feel small,” and confirmed she will remain in the competition to represent Mexico. Her resilience has garnered widespread support on social media, turning a moment of conflict into a symbol of strength. The incident has added an unexpected layer of tension to the lead-up to Miss Universe 2025.
As the pageant approaches, this clash highlights ongoing challenges in balancing authority, respect, and inclusivity within the global beauty industry. With contestants from over 75 nations converging in Thailand, the focus now shifts to whether the MUO will address internal issues transparently. For Bosch and her peers, the stage remains set—not just for crowns, but for dignity.
