A BEST bus collided with a stationary truck on the Western Express Highway in Goregaon East early Friday, injuring eight people, including the driver, conductor, and six passengers. The accident occurred around 6:30 AM near Vanrai Police Station as the bus, en route from Dindoshi to Sewree, swerved to avoid a car cutting in from the service road. The driver lost control, crashing into a parked truck previously seized in a theft case. The bus’s front was severely damaged.
The injured passengers—Ashraf Sahid Husen (66), Sitaram Gaikwad (60), Bharti Mandavkar (56), Sudhakar Rewale (57), Pochiya Naresh Kanpochi (30), and Amit Yadav (35)—were rushed to a nearby hospital, along with the driver and conductor. Vanrai Police are investigating, with initial findings pointing to the sudden maneuver as the cause.
The incident disrupted traffic briefly. BEST officials noted the bus was wet-leased, raising concerns about driver training, as accidents involving such buses have risen sharply this year.
