At least 14 people have been killed in a series of violent incidents across northwest Pakistan, authorities said on Tuesday, as security forces continue to grapple with militant insurgencies in the region. The dead included 11 security personnel and three civilians, among them a child, according to officials briefing reporters in Peshawar.

The attacks occurred on Monday in different districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which borders Afghanistan and has long been a theatre of militant violence. In Bajaur district, a suicide bomber driving an explosives‑laden vehicle struck the wall of a religious college where police and Frontier Corps personnel were stationed, killing at least eight security personnel and injuring around 10 others. A child was also killed when the blast caused the roofs of nearby homes to collapse.

Separately, in the Bannu district, a bomb placed in a rickshaw exploded outside the Miryan police station, killing two civilians and wounding at least 17 others. Security sources said no group had immediately claimed responsibility for either attack, though suspicion has fallen on the outlawed Tehrik‑e‑Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and allied extremist networks active in the region.

Earlier in the week, militants ambushed a police vehicle in Dera Ismail Khan, killing four officers and injuring others, underscoring a broader escalation of violence against state security forces.

Officials noted that the surge in attacks coincides with a broader offensive by militants across both northern and southern provinces of Pakistan, frequently exploiting rugged terrain and porous borders. The Pakistani military has intensified counterterrorism operations in recent months, but insurgent factions have continued to mount complex attacks targeting both security outposts and civilian locations.

The government has condemned the violence and pledged continued operations to neutralize militant threats. Rescue and investigation efforts were ongoing on Tuesday, with authorities also coordinating medical aid and search operations for additional victims and potential suspects linked to the attacks.

Context: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and adjoining tribal areas have experienced persistent militant activity for over a decade, involving groups such as the TTP and affiliates of Islamic State‑Khorasan Province. These insurgencies have prompted frequent security clashes, suicide bombings and coordinated attacks that have claimed hundreds of lives in recent years.
