The Madhya Pradesh government has reorganised the state Waqf Board under the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, with two Hindu members included in the newly constituted body, officials said. The 10-member board has been formed through a gazette notification issued on Sunday, with Sanwar Patel appointed as its chairman.
Manoj Malpani and Animesh Bhargava have been appointed as the two Hindu members of the Madhya Pradesh Waqf Board. Officials claimed that Madhya Pradesh has become the first state in the country to reorganise a state-level Waqf Board under the amended law and include Hindu members in its composition.
The state government constituted the new board by exercising powers under Section 13(1) of the Waqf Act, 1995, as amended in 2025. Officials said the composition of the board was determined in accordance with provisions under Section 14 of the Act, which governs the constitution of state Waqf boards.

The reorganisation follows changes introduced through the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, which altered provisions related to the administration and composition of Waqf bodies. The Madhya Pradesh government has now implemented the amended framework while forming the new 10-member board responsible for overseeing Waqf-related matters across the state.
A Waqf Board is a statutory body responsible for managing and protecting Waqf properties within a state. Its duties include maintaining records of properties, monitoring their use and income, and taking steps to protect them from encroachment. The board also oversees whether such properties are being used for their intended purposes.
Waqf properties are generally dedicated for religious, educational and social welfare purposes, and the board is responsible for supervising their administration. With the latest reorganisation, the newly appointed Madhya Pradesh Waqf Board will operate under the amended legal framework and carry out its statutory responsibilities across the state.
