Police have uncovered an alleged conspiracy by a man to implicate the husband of his former girlfriend in a narcotics case by arranging for a parcel containing drugs to be delivered to his home in Safapora. The case emerged after officers received information about a suspected drug consignment being sent to a local poultry farmer.

Police intercepted the parcel after it was delivered and allegedly found cocaine, charas and diclofenac tablets inside. The farmer, who had been told that the package contained poultry-feed samples, was initially arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Investigators, however, began to suspect that he might have been deliberately framed.

During questioning, officers learned that the farmer had received calls and messages concerning the parcel from a Saudi Arabia-based telephone number. He reportedly told investigators that the same number had previously been used to warn him against marrying the woman who later became his wife. This information prompted police to question the woman and examine the circumstances surrounding the shipment.

The investigation subsequently led officers to Tariq Ahmad Sofi of Zainakote in Srinagar, who was arrested in connection with the case. Police alleged that Tariq planned the operation with the assistance of his friend Areeb in Kanpur to falsely implicate the woman’s husband. Investigators believe the Saudi telephone number used in the alleged conspiracy belonged to Areeb, who has reportedly travelled to Saudi Arabia.

Officers suspect that Tariq first sent the drugs to Kanpur before asking Areeb to forward the parcel to the farmer in Safapora. Police said the charas appeared to be locally sourced, but investigators have not established whether Areeb knew that the package contained narcotics. The precise movement and origin of the other substances also remain under investigation.

Police sources said the woman’s call-detail records helped investigators identify Tariq and uncover the alleged plot. The case initially appeared to involve a possible interstate drug network, but further questioning changed the direction of the inquiry. Authorities are continuing to investigate all participants and circumstances surrounding the parcel, while the allegations remain subject to further legal proceedings.
