Israel launched a series of strikes on key Iranian energy facilities late Saturday night, targeting fuel storage and refinery infrastructure around the capital in one of the most significant escalations since the war between the two countries began. The attacks hit multiple locations linked to Iran’s oil supply network, sparking large fires and raising fears of further retaliation.
Video footage circulating online showed intense flames and thick plumes of smoke rising from the Shahr-e Rey Oil Refinery, one of Iran’s largest refining complexes located south of Tehran. Israeli media reported that approximately 30 large oil storage tanks at the refinery were among the targets. Another explosion was reported at the Fardis Oil Depot in Karaj, a city west of the capital.
A source within Iran’s Oil Ministry told the Fars News Agency that Israeli fighter jets struck three oil depots in the Tehran area, including facilities in Kouhak and Shahran, as well as the depot in Karaj. The strikes represent a shift toward targeting Iran’s energy infrastructure, a move Israeli officials have increasingly advocated as a way to weaken the country’s economy and pressure its leadership.

The Israel Defense Forces confirmed the operation, saying its forces carried out attacks on several fuel storage complexes in Tehran. According to the military, the fuel stored at the facilities was being used to support Iran’s military operations. Video captured by Associated Press showed a glowing skyline over Tehran before towering flames and smoke erupted from the impacted sites.
Iranian state media acknowledged that an oil storage facility had been struck, describing the attack as one of the first instances in the conflict where a civilian industrial installation has been directly targeted. Iranian officials warned that the move could trigger retaliatory strikes on Israeli energy infrastructure, including oil refineries in the northern Israeli port city of Haifa.
In a separate incident, drones struck positions linked to the Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan, a Kurdish opposition group operating in the region. An official with the group, speaking anonymously because they were not authorized to speak publicly, said the attack killed at least one person. The strikes underscore the widening geographic and strategic scope of the conflict as both sides expand the range of targets.
