Tensions in West Asia have escalated sharply after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Force issued a direct warning to the United States following reported strikes on multiple cities in southern Iran. The developments have heightened fears of further regional instability, particularly around the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.
According to Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency, IRGC Aerospace commander Brigadier General Seyed Majid Mousavi warned that Iran would respond forcefully if the United States continued military operations near the region. He stated that any attempt to endanger the Strait of Hormuz would be met with retaliation, adding that Iran would make the region “hell from all over Iran” in response to what he described as American aggression.
The remarks came shortly after reports of fresh US strikes on several locations in southern Iran, which triggered an immediate reaction from Iran’s military leadership. In response, Iran’s top command announced what it described as the complete closure of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical maritime chokepoints for global energy transport.

The Strait of Hormuz is a narrow waterway through which a significant share of the world’s crude oil shipments pass, making it one of the most strategically sensitive maritime corridors globally. Any disruption in this region is widely seen as having immediate implications for global oil prices and international shipping routes.
The latest exchange of threats marks a further deterioration in already strained US-Iran relations, with both sides signalling readiness for escalation. While details of the reported strikes remain limited, the rhetoric from Tehran underscores growing concerns that the conflict could widen beyond targeted military exchanges, drawing in broader regional and global economic consequences.
