Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is set to visit Pakistan on July 26 to bolster bilateral ties amid recent regional tensions, according to Radio Pakistan. The visit, discussed during a Monday call between Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and his Iranian counterpart Eskandar Momeni, underscores the deepening diplomatic engagement between the two nations. Momeni also expressed condolences for Pakistan’s recent flood victims, highlighting the shared goodwill.
Pezeshkian’s trip, the second by an Iranian president to Pakistan in two years following Ebrahim Raisi’s April 2024 visit, is expected to focus on security and regional issues, though the full agenda remains undisclosed. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei emphasized the visit’s significance, noting that Iran-Pakistan relations are rooted in historical, cultural, and religious ties, strengthened by mutual respect. Diplomatic exchanges have intensified following Israel’s 12-day assault on Iran’s military, nuclear, and residential areas starting June 13, 2025, and U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear sites on June 22.
During the June 16 Israeli airstrike on Tehran’s Shahrak-e Bagheri district, Pezeshkian narrowly escaped an assassination attempt, sustaining leg injuries while meeting with top officials. Iranian media reported Israel’s precision-guided munitions targeted the meeting venue, forcing officials to flee via an emergency hatch. Pezeshkian later confirmed the attack to U.S. commentator Tucker Carlson, blaming Israel. The strikes killed dozens of Iranian military leaders and nuclear scientists, prompting Iran’s retaliatory missile strikes on Israeli and U.S. military targets, as reported by The Telegraph and Tasnim News Agency.
