Iran has claimed that a naval blockade against the country in the Strait of Hormuz is beginning to be lifted, marking a significant development in ongoing geopolitical tensions involving the United States and regional maritime security. The remarks were made by Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Majid Takht-Ravanchi during a briefing with foreign ambassadors and heads of international missions in Tehran.
According to Takht-Ravanchi, discussions related to a memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States are progressing, with provisions reportedly allowing the agreement to be signed either digitally or in person in Switzerland. He indicated that the framework includes mechanisms to address potential violations and ensure decisions are made based on agreed procedures, though full details of the arrangement have not been publicly disclosed.
The Iranian official further stated that the lifting of what he described as a “naval siege” has already begun and is now in an operational phase. However, he also noted that it remains too early to assess the full outcome of the negotiations, pointing out that the framework sets a maximum duration of 60 days for discussions and implementation timelines.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most strategically important maritime chokepoints, through which a significant portion of global oil shipments pass. Any disruption or military tension in the region often has immediate implications for international energy markets and global trade stability, making such developments closely watched by governments and analysts worldwide.
While Iran’s statement suggests a possible easing of maritime pressure, there has been no independent confirmation from the United States or other international parties regarding the lifting of any blockade. Diplomatic engagement between the two countries has historically been complex, and analysts caution that negotiations in such high-stakes environments often involve competing narratives and cautious messaging from both sides.
