An Iranian delegation led by Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf arrived in Pakistan on Saturday for scheduled peace talks with the United States, with the visit drawing attention after symbolic items linked to victims of the Iran conflict were reportedly carried aboard the flight to Islamabad. The discussions are expected to focus on a proposed ceasefire framework and broader efforts to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East.
According to posts shared on social media by Ghalibaf, items such as blood-soaked school bags, children’s shoes, white flowers, and photographs of alleged victims were placed in the front row of the delegation’s aircraft. He described them as accompanying materials under the banner “Minab 168,” while sharing images that showed him viewing photographs during the journey.
The delegation’s symbolic reference to “Minab 168” is linked to Iranian claims regarding children killed during early stages of the Iran conflict. Iranian officials have alleged that more than 160 children were killed in an airstrike on a school in Minab, though these claims have not been independently verified. Iranian authorities have previously described the incident as a significant humanitarian tragedy, while external verification of the details remains limited.

The talks in Islamabad are expected to bring together representatives from Iran and the United States to discuss a proposed 10-point ceasefire plan. The Iranian side is being led by Ghalibaf along with Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and other senior officials, while discussions are aimed at addressing ongoing hostilities and exploring potential diplomatic pathways to reduce regional escalation.
Pakistani officials, including senior government and military representatives, received the Iranian delegation upon arrival. The visit is being closely watched in diplomatic circles, as Pakistan plays a hosting role in facilitating high-level discussions between the two sides amid heightened tensions in the region.
The United States delegation is expected to include Vice President JD Vance, special envoy Steve Witkoff, and senior advisers. The meeting marks a rare high-level engagement between US and Iranian representatives in Pakistan, with both sides under international pressure to seek a path toward stabilising the conflict and preventing further escalation.
