India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri embarked on a pivotal two-day visit to Nepal on August 17, 2025, engaging with the country’s top leadership to bolster the deep-rooted partnership between the two nations. Meeting Nepal’s President Ramchandra Paudel, Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli, and Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba in Kathmandu, Misri focused on expanding cooperation across multiple sectors, reinforcing the strong civilizational and diplomatic ties that define India-Nepal relations.
During his discussions with Prime Minister Oli at Singhdurbar, Misri reaffirmed India’s commitment to the partnership, emphasizing collaboration in economic, technological, and socio-cultural domains, according to the Indian embassy. Indian Ambassador Naveen Srivastava accompanied Misri, highlighting the significance of the talks. In a separate meeting, President Paudel praised India’s 'Neighbourhood First' policy, noting Nepal’s high priority on its relationship with India and its desire to leverage India’s socio-economic and technological advancements for mutual benefit.
Misri’s visit, at the invitation of Nepalese Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai, included delivering a letter from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi inviting Oli for an official visit to India on September 16-17. The agenda also covered critical issues like air connectivity, with Foreign Minister Deuba advocating for direct flights between New Delhi and Nepalgunj, as well as enhanced links from Gautam Buddha and Pokhara International Airports to Indian cities. “Our talks centered on deepening the multifaceted Nepal-India relationship, built on trust and shared aspirations,” Deuba posted on social media.

Further engagements included meetings with Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN-UML chairman Pushpakamal Dahal 'Prachanda', where Misri explored avenues to advance bilateral cooperation. Discussions with Foreign Secretary Rai underscored mutual interests, with both sides exchanging views on strengthening ties across trade, infrastructure, and regional stability.
The visit, concluding on Monday afternoon, reflects India’s proactive diplomacy in the Himalayan region, aligning with Nepal’s aspirations for progress.
