The Indian Navy’s First Training Squadron (1TS), comprising INS Tir, INS Shardul, and CGS Sarathi, made a grand entrance at Port Victoria, Seychelles, on September 1, as part of an ambitious long-range training mission in the southwest Indian Ocean Region, Navy officials announced.
This marks the third visit of Indian Navy ships to Seychelles in 2025, showcasing India’s commitment to strengthening maritime ties. The deployment aligns with the MAHASAGAR vision, fostering mutual security and growth in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
The Seychelles Defence Force (SDF) welcomed the squadron with a vibrant ceremonial band performance, matched by the Indian Navy’s own Guard and Band display, symbolising the deep bond between the two nations.

Led by Capt Tijo K Joseph, the 1TS will engage with Seychelles’ government officials, SDF leaders, and the Indian High Commission during the visit. The mission isn’t just about strategy—expect professional exchanges, cross-deck visits, and training sessions with SDF personnel.
The visit also promises cultural flair with yoga sessions, naval band concerts, sports events, and community outreach programmes, blending training with goodwill. This dynamic deployment underscores the Indian Navy’s role in building “bridges of friendship” while shaping the next generation of naval leaders in the IOR.
