The Indian Embassy in Tehran on Wednesday issued a strong advisory urging Indian nationals, including students, tourists, pilgrims, and businesspersons, to leave Iran by available means of transport, including commercial flights, amid ongoing anti-government protests.
The embassy advised Indians to keep passports, IDs, and travel documents readily accessible and offered helpline numbers (+989128109115, +989128109109, +989128109102, +989932179359) and an email (cons.tehran@mea.gov.in) for assistance to ensure safe evacuation.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has also cautioned Indian citizens against travelling to Iran until further notice. In a separate advisory, it reiterated that all non-essential travel should be postponed, and those on resident visas should register with the embassy if not already done.

The current wave of protests began on December 28, 2025, driven by worsening economic conditions and political dissatisfaction. Demonstrations have turned violent, with security forces reportedly using military-grade weapons against protestors, targeting head and upper body areas.
An Iranian official told Reuters that 2,000 people had been killed, attributing the violence to “terrorists,” though human rights groups report significant civilian casualties amid the crackdown. The situation remains highly volatile, prompting urgent safety warnings for foreign nationals.
The MEA has urged Indian citizens in Iran to stay updated with local news, avoid protest areas, and follow guidance from the embassy. With tensions escalating, authorities emphasize that prompt evacuation is the safest course of action for Indian nationals currently in the country.
