Indian comfort classics like masala chai, crispy samosas, hot pakodas, fluffy paranthas and nourishing khichdi turned into surprise stars at the World Economic Forum in Davos. Amid freezing temperatures and snow-covered streets, world leaders, delegates and attendees repeatedly paused their high-stakes discussions to enjoy authentic Indian flavours. The familiar aromas and hearty dishes provided a warm contrast to the alpine chill, quickly becoming one of the most talked-about attractions of the five-day summit.
For the first time, an Indian food truck named Kumar Indian Food set up shop right on the main Promenade. It offered a mouth-watering menu of samosas, pakodas, rice, rotis, and both vegetarian and non-vegetarian curries. The truck consistently drew longer queues than nearby stalls serving Chinese, Swiss and other international fare, proving the universal appeal of Indian street food even in the Swiss mountains. Passers-by, including many foreign nationals, lined up eagerly to taste the spicy, comforting offerings.
Corporate India added its own touch of hospitality. The Tata Group opened Chai Central, a charming tea stall near its lounge on the route to the Congress Centre, serving steaming cups of masala chai to anyone walking by. Nearby, HCL Technologies set up a stall offering both tea and coffee, creating little pockets of warmth and conversation. These simple gestures turned routine walks into pleasant, flavour-filled breaks for busy global participants.

Adding to the generosity, Akshaya Patra served free hot khichdi on the main promenade, attracting massive crowds throughout the event. The wholesome, one-pot dish—known for its simplicity and nourishment—became especially popular among those seeking light yet satisfying food in the cold weather. Inside the India Pavilion, which featured participation from several union ministries and ten Indian states, visitors enjoyed a full spread of samosas, tikkas, biryanis, curries, rotis, paranthas, tea and coffee.
The strong presence of Indian food at Davos highlighted the growing global love for Indian cuisine while showcasing India’s soft power through its culinary heritage. From quick roadside bites to hearty home-style meals, these dishes bridged cultures and brought people together in the heart of the WEF.
