India and Israel are advancing their defence and security cooperation under a new Special Strategic Partnership framework that is currently in the final stages of development. The initiative follows discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during their meeting in Jerusalem earlier this year and is aimed at strengthening joint resilience against emerging security challenges.
According to sources, the proposed framework will focus on co-production of defence systems, joint development of next-generation military technologies and the creation of emergency procurement mechanisms. These mechanisms are intended to facilitate rapid defence cooperation during periods of conflict, heightened threat perceptions or national security emergencies.
The evolving partnership gained momentum this week with the visit of Israel's Ministry of Defence Director General, Maj. Gen. (Res.) Amir Baram, who led a high-level delegation to New Delhi. During the two-day visit, he held discussions with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, the Chief of Defence Staff and other senior defence officials.

India's Ministry of Defence said discussions with Rajnath Singh focused on expanding bilateral defence cooperation, while Israeli officials reiterated their commitment to deepening collaboration under the Special Strategic Partnership framework. The meetings reflected a shared intention to broaden strategic engagement between the two countries.
Separate talks between the Israeli delegation and Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh concentrated on co-development and co-production initiatives, as well as cooperation in advanced military technologies and future defence capabilities. Both sides explored avenues to strengthen technological collaboration and enhance defence industrial partnerships.
The proposed framework is expected to formalise and expand a defence relationship that has grown steadily over the years. By creating structured mechanisms for technology development, industrial cooperation and emergency support, India and Israel aim to build a more resilient and long-term strategic partnership capable of addressing evolving regional and global security challenges.
