In a startling incident outside Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, Aleema Khanum, sister of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, was struck by an egg while addressing the media following a hearing in the Toshakhana case. The attack, captured on video and widely shared on social media, showed the egg hitting Khanum’s chin and splattering on her clothes. A woman in the crowd was heard shouting, “Who the hell is this?” and “Kisne kiya yeh (Who did this)?” Khanum, visibly shocked but composed, responded calmly, saying, “Koi baat nahi, jaane do” (It’s okay, let it go).
Police swiftly arrested two women, identified as supporters of Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, for throwing the egg. Authorities stated the incident occurred after Khanum avoided a journalist’s question about reporter Tayyab Baloch, who had faced online trolling and alleged threats after accusing Khanum of misusing donation funds to purchase property. Journalists pressed Khanum, asking, “You did not answer the question; instead, Tayyab Baloch was threatened. Is asking a question a crime? Do you only respond to questions of your choice?”
The incident sparked outrage among PTI supporters. One user on X condemned the act, writing, “Such behavior is not only unethical but also unfortunate, as it turns political disagreements into insults and attacks. Differences of opinion are one thing, but civility and respect should never be abandoned.” Another user alleged a conspiracy, claiming, “This disgraceful act is by Asim Munir and the Noon League; these people are extremely afraid of Khan and his family.”

The Toshakhana case centers on allegations that Imran Khan unlawfully bought and sold state gifts worth over 140 million Pakistani rupees ($500,000) from the Toshakhana, a government repository for gifts received by officials. Khan was sentenced to three years in prison in August 2023, and the case against him and his wife, Bushra Bibi, was adjourned on Friday, with the next hearing scheduled for September 8, 2025.
The egg-throwing incident has intensified tensions surrounding the high-profile case, highlighting the polarized atmosphere in Pakistan’s political landscape. As Khan remains incarcerated, his family and supporters continue to face scrutiny and public confrontations, raising concerns about civility and safety in political discourse.
