A Hyderabad family of four—B Srivenkat, 40, his wife Tejaswini Cholleti, 36, and their children, Siddarth, 9, and Mrida, 7—tragically died in a car crash in Greene County, Alabama, on Saturday night, relatives confirmed Tuesday. The family, residents of Sutton Fields in Aubrey, near Dallas, for three years, was returning from a Fourth of July visit to relatives in Atlanta when a mini-truck, allegedly speeding the wrong way, collided head-on with their car, causing it to burst into flames.
A relative from Kompally, Hyderabad, told local media, “The car was completely gutted. Half-burnt certificates helped identify them, but their remains—teeth and bones—are undergoing forensic tests, including DNA analysis, with results expected in 48-72 hours.” The family’s home in Dallas, purchased after Srivenkat and Tejaswini’s move to the US for work, now stands empty as relatives travel to retrieve their remains for final rites in India.
The relative expressed anguish, noting, “There were 26 police calls about the truck’s wrong-way driving, but no action was taken in time.” The Indian Consulate in New York is assisting with repatriation, while Alabama authorities investigate the crash, which has sparked outrage on X over road safety lapses. The incident, one of several recent fatal crashes involving Indian nationals in the US, has left the Hyderabad community in mourning.
