The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) has directed online food delivery platforms Swiggy and Zomato to remove unlicensed food outlets from their platforms as part of a strengthened food safety enforcement drive. The civic body has instructed the companies to ensure that only restaurants, cloud kitchens and food businesses holding valid licences are allowed to operate through their applications. The move aims to improve food safety standards and protect consumers from unhygienic food practices.
According to the CMC, food businesses whose licences have expired, been cancelled or suspended must be immediately delisted from the platforms. The civic authority has specifically asked Swiggy and Zomato to verify that listed outlets possess valid Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) registrations and trade licences before allowing them to continue operations. Officials said online platforms must coordinate with authorities to ensure that consumers receive safe and hygienic food.
The corporation has also directed food delivery companies to share information related to food safety ratings, hygiene inspections and compliance checks with the civic body. Platforms have been asked to verify the actual operating locations of restaurants and cloud kitchens and ensure that food preparation and delivery take place only from approved premises. Officials further stated that genuine customer complaints and reviews related to hygiene and food safety should not be removed or hidden, as consumer feedback plays an important role in improving standards.

The action follows a large-scale inspection drive conducted by food safety teams across Cyberabad, Hyderabad and Malkajgiri areas. During the inspections, authorities reportedly found several violations at restaurants, cloud kitchens and food storage facilities, including poor sanitation, pest infestations, improper storage practices, use of expired ingredients and unsafe kitchen conditions. Officials said corrective measures were required at multiple establishments following the inspections.
Several well-known eateries, including Shah Gouse, Mehfil, AnTeRa and Ideal Kitchen, were issued notices over alleged hygiene violations. Authorities reported issues such as cockroach infestations, unhygienic kitchens, storage of stale food, reuse of cooking oil and improper waste disposal practices. Some establishments were also instructed to temporarily stop operations until necessary improvements were made.
The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation has warned that strict action will be taken against food businesses and online platforms that fail to comply with food safety regulations. The civic body said the latest measures are aimed at creating greater accountability among restaurants and delivery platforms while ensuring that customers receive food prepared under safe and approved conditions.
