Donald Trump extended greetings to people celebrating Holi across the United States and around the world, describing the festival as a day symbolising hope, peace and unity. In a message issued from the White House, Trump wished Hindu communities a joyful celebration marking the arrival of spring and the triumph of good over evil. The message was part of a broader set of greetings from political leaders in North America recognising the importance of the festival for millions of people globally.
In his statement, Trump said he and Melania Trump were sending their best wishes to those observing the festival. “Melania and I send our best wishes to all who celebrate the Hindu festival of Holi — a day welcoming the arrival of spring and rejoicing in the victory of good over evil,” the message said. He added that as communities gather to celebrate the festival of colours, he hopes the day will bring hope, harmony and unity to people observing the occasion.
The president’s message was also shared on social media by Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary, who highlighted the significance of the festival for communities celebrating across the United States and globally. Holi is widely observed by Hindu communities through gatherings that include colourful powder celebrations, music, dancing and festive meals. The festival is traditionally associated with renewal, the arrival of spring and the symbolic victory of good over evil.

Several American state leaders also marked the occasion by issuing greetings to Hindu communities in their respective states. Gavin Newsom, governor of California, said the festival represents joy and peace as spring begins. In a public message, Newsom wished the state’s Hindu community a Holi filled with peace, love and happiness, noting that the festival celebrates unity and the changing of seasons.
Similarly, Wes Moore, governor of Maryland, issued a message highlighting the festival’s themes of renewal and togetherness. Moore said Holi is an occasion for communities to come together in celebration and expressed hope that the spirit of the festival would spread optimism and positivity across the state and beyond.
In Canada, greetings also came from national leadership, with Prime Minister Mark Carney extending wishes to those celebrating the festival across the country and globally. Carney described Holi as a celebration of renewal, forgiveness and community, noting that he had recently experienced the festival during a visit to Mumbai in India. Holi celebrations have grown significantly in recent years across North America as Indian-origin communities expand and universities and civic organisations increasingly host large public events marking the festival.
