Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to host Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam for high-level bilateral talks in Varanasi on September 11, marking a significant step in deepening the strategic partnership between India and Mauritius. The discussions, part of Ramgoolam’s eight-day visit to India from September 9 to 16, aim to bolster cooperation in defense, trade, investment, and cultural ties, officials confirmed on Tuesday.
Ramgoolam will arrive in Varanasi, Modi’s parliamentary constituency, on the evening of September 10 for a three-day visit. On September 11, the two leaders will engage in comprehensive talks to advance the “enhanced strategic partnership” outlined by India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). Following the meeting, Ramgoolam will attend the iconic Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat, a spiritual highlight of his visit. On September 12, he will offer prayers at the revered Kashi Vishwanath Temple before departing for other destinations, including Mumbai, Ayodhya, and Tirupati.
Local BJP leaders are pulling out all the stops to ensure a grand welcome for the visiting dignitary and Modi. Member of Legislative Council Dharmendra Singh noted that preparations are in full swing, with six designated welcome points from Police Lines to Taj Hotel. “Party workers will shower rose petals and organize cultural performances, including bands, drums, and conch sounds, to honor the leaders,” said BJP city president Pradeep Agrahari. The enthusiasm reflects Varanasi’s pride in hosting this high-profile diplomatic engagement, which underscores the city’s growing prominence on the global stage.
