Chaos erupted in Sydney’s upscale Woollahra suburb when a man deliberately crashed his Toyota Kluger through the gates of the Russian consulate at 8 am Monday, police reported.
The unauthorized vehicle came to a stop on the consulate’s lawn near a flagpole, drawing a swift police response. New South Wales Police were called to investigate the suspicious vehicle in the driveway. When officers tried to engage with the driver, he allegedly drove the SUV through the consulate's gates. Two officers sustained minor injuries during the incident and were treated on-site.
The 39-year-old driver was arrested, but authorities have not disclosed his motives or potential charges. The Russian Embassy in Canberra has yet to comment on the dramatic breach, which has left local residents stunned.
